Politic-tack-thinking on Philippines 2010: Tales of a hungry stomach

The National Election on Philippines 2010 signifies another hope for ordinary Juan dela Cruz who endures the pain and hardship of work for a minimum wage to support his family's daily needs. Currently, we are facing the issues on food shortage and price inflation, where the present government is firm on saying that everything is under control. In spite with the assurance that the Arroyo administration promises, panic buying, obvious sign of shortage, and rapid price inflation shows that someone is not telling the truth.

Food is the primary issue to be answered by the government today and the future candidate must present in their more specific platforms. Food may be sufficient but the the price inflates where none of our minimum wage earner could no longer afford to avail. Aside from the price control of basic commodities, the new president on 2010 must settle the long battle of wage increase versus the bloating daily expenses.

The wage increase can be divided in two categories:

1. Wage or salary increase - the running candidate must have ideas on the exact amount of cost of living of each sectors especially the broad C down to D and E classes. This sector comprises the 3/4s of the countries population. The new government must create a resolution to the ailing issue of wage to answer the needs of Juan dela Cruz. Strengthen the wage board; additional man power to the committee, members of the minimum wage earners should be included to the group. The minimum wage earners who are part of the committee will actually serve as a source of information of the present set up of the labor force of the country.

2. Non wage benefit - As stated in CBA or Collective Bargaining Agreement of several company indicates this kinds of benefits, such as rice subsidy, medical care, shopping goods, educational plan and others. Unfortunately not all of that several companies comply though it was stated in Department of Labor and Employment, I witnessed the issue of CBA before in my college days when it take less that a week to paralyzed classes where professors pickets in front of the university gates calling on the CBA's approval of the school administration. Aside from my alma mater we all witness picket lines in several establishment who refuses to settle with their employee's needs. The future president must set guidelines with DOLE to set on priorities to the needs of labor force instead of the company's administration. Unfortunately we witness stories of DOLE favoring to the administrators of companies who declines the needs of their employees, where DOLE should listen to the plight of the workers aside from listening with the employers alone.

May the future candidates of 2010 remember that the month of election is May, let it be a reminder to them that they are running to upgrade the present status of the society particularly the labor sectors who are primary victims of price inflation and food shortage due to insufficient production of agricultural sectors where the Agricultural Department overlooks. I can't blame the farmers who can't produce sufficient food for the growing population of the country, but the government who keeps on telling that there is no problem. There is a problem, we and the government are neglecting the rampant issues concerning us, directly or indirectly. World Bank already putting the answer in our face that we should work on price regulation yet we closes our ears to this option that may answer the issue of inflation. TUCP is airing the option of increasing P80.00 on minimum wage yet we don't see progress, is that because the members of the wage board are more of employer thinking type rather that employee by heart.

For those who are running for the position, ask your self, Am I running to help ease hunger and poverty of this country? You may say yes but I have two answers on that: 1. you are true to the country or 2. you're just lying!

Cheap Medicines Bill Update: Generic Only Provision is out!

The debate on the generic only provision finally straighten out after the members of the congress who authored the House Resolution no. 2844 or Cheaper Medicine Bill submit on the request of the Senate and the Philippine Medical Association. The Generic Only provision became the source of the debate on the bi-cameral session and even the disapproval of the Philippine Medical Association. It requires medical practitioner to prescribe only generic name of drugs, or medicine in their prescription and it holds the rights of the doctors to recommend specific brand.

House Speaker Prospero Nograles mentioned that they need to adopt on the bill passed by the Senate but they need assurance that the bill will produce cheap (price) medicine. They were planning to implement the said bill before the Labor Day on May 1 as gift to the workers.

In spite of the Congress approval to remove the generics only provision, Iloilo Representative Janet Garin mentioned that the senate must not remove the drug price regulatory board on the provision, where it will monitor the prices of the medicine in the market. Aside from the drug price regulatory board, the congress wanted to retain the penalties on the company who over price with their products. Unfortunately the regulatory board was removed, but still members of the congress were hoping that this provision will be returned for the needs of the poor people.

President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo ask the senate and congress to finalized and submit the bill before Labor Day.

Ang Sa Wari Ko: I agree with Rep. Garin, in spite with their approval to remove the generic only provision, the senate must not take out the regulatory board that will serve as our eyes on the company that over price with their products. The inflation on our basic commodities such as electricity, gasoline and food, we cannot afford another increase especially in medicine. If the congress and senate can create a bill like this, instead of listening to the cabinet secretaries and spokespersons telling that their is no crisis and their is sufficient food and other basic commodities despite of price increase, why not create a bill that will regulate the price on food, electricity and gasoline and the rest is history.

Congress Supports The Cebu Canister Scandal, Church stands on opposite position

Talking about Ethics and Law

1. Paglabag sa Code of Ethics
2. False Medical Advertisement

Issues on Morality

On Medical Ethics vs the Canister Scandal in Cebu

Secretary Francisco Duque III of Department of Health released the names of the alleged medical practitioners, who were involved in the canister scandal in Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center. They were; Dr. Philips Leo Arias (Head Surgeon), Fr. Angelo Alinawagan (Assistant Surgeon), Dr. Max Joseph Montecillo (Surgeon), Rosemarie Villareal (Nursing Attendant), and Carmina Sapio (Circulating Nurse), while the person who took the video and uploaded in you tube was still to be determined.

According to Sec. Duque, the violations of the alleged doctors were:

  1. Operating team lang ang dapat nasa loob ng operating room (Assigned operating team are the only person should be inside the operating room).
  2. Bawal ang cellphone tuwing operasyon (Using cell phone is prohibited during operation).
  3. Bawal kumuha ng video nang walang pahintulot ng pasyente (Taking video is now allowed without permission of the patient).
  4. Paggalang sa karapatan ng pasyente (Patient’s right of privacy).

Sec. Duque mentioned that this kind of act must not be tolerated especially with the violation of the rights of the patient. He said that the only administrative case will be filed on the alleged medical staff, where the filing of criminal case lies on the Office of the Ombudsman and termination of license of the doctors is under the decision of the Professional Regulation Board.

All the controversies roots from the 29-year-old patients who undergone surgery where a callboy inserted canister inside his anus. During his operation one of the medical team started to take pictures and videos using a mobile phone and uploaded it You Tube. In the video the laughing and mocking of the medical team was heard.

Ang Sa Wari Ko: Do I need to air my opinion? It is a clear prove of violation aside from medical guidelines that the doctors and medical staff should know, but simply violation of human rights, of privacy and the idea of respecting the person despite of what happen. I may not be a doctor to know the guidelines but I am a person who knows the right of privacy and respect for myself and to others.

Politic-tack-thinking on Philippines 2010

The next president of the country must have a heart to feel, an ear to listen, and a hand to extend help to the Filipinos who are in need. We have enough of teleserye-like drama in the government; we need someone who acts first for the nation’s necessity rather than thinking how they will look like in front of the camera.

2010 National Election will create an impact to in the political history of the country, a circus of candidates and platforms buying for the Filipinos approval. Influential politicians, both from grass roots and from political clan will battle for the most important role of the country -- the President. In spite of their optimistic plan for the nation, the next president will encounter issues that the out going will leave, issues on people's needs and nation's stability. Matters on food, education, and the solution on growing population; this are the things that candidates running for the office must present in their platforms -- with specific agendas, goals, and timelines -- to be worthy of people's vote.

In spite of the sweet promises that these candidates offer, they must be aware with the present situation of the ailing society is suffering for so long. In present time, the nation is facing the dilemma of food shortage; from the price inflation-- where Juan dela Cruz can no longer afford to buy sufficient food for his kin -- to the possibility of hoarding as panic arises. The presidential candidate should create a program to fund agricultural regions more to provide sufficient food for the country. And lay down rules on companies that hoard basic commodities like rice, flour, sugar, and meat, and sell it on the higher price in the market. Price control should be instigated as World Bank requested the Arroyo government, yet in spite of the good it will affect to the country, PGMA decline this alternative opened to her.

After feeding the people -- and when his stomach is full -- educate them how to earn and live for themselves. One of the agenda of a candidate is to set priority on education with higher standards. Sufficient budget that will help to rehabilitate publics schools from the classrooms to the books needed by the students. A 40 student per class and a one book per student policy must be implemented to answer the needs on the development of the child's education. The candidate must present a concrete plans such as scholarship for those who intellectually capable but financially unable. And programs that will serve the needs of physically incapable Filipinos, and unemployed adults such as livelihood program that will educate them on how they will use their time and ability to earn for a living.

Educating the people is one of the key to cure social cancer caused by poverty. The issue of poverty roots from the amazing increase of population in the country, and the production of food can no longer sustain the needs of people. The battle on the issue on what to use on population control is still on the chopping board; the religious sector pushes the idea of natural method and opposes to the artificial method or contraceptive that NGOs are proposing. The issue of booming population depends now on what is humane and moral despite of the fact that it doubles every year. The next president must present a systematic way to moderate the increase of population. Educating the people in the risk of pro creating more than they can support its daily needs, the deployment on information drive is needed to stir awareness to the people. Also the next president must stand in between of the two sectors battling on what method to use on population control. As an important issue to be solved soon, the next president must empower both sectors on this campaign without the main issue on what is moral and not, let the religious do campaign in their respective churches, and let NGOs go deep in the heart of rural areas to inform the people on the alarming increase on population and how we can resolve it.

2010 is no longer far, who knows in a blink of an eye we are getting ready to vote for National Election. Politicians running for public office may hire the best PR Agency in the Philippines, and they can benefit from media exposure, in TV plugs, Print media and billboards but what is important is that, is He/She the one we are all waiting for to solve the issues of the country, if not solve at least give remedy to the suffering nation. In my first entry on the topic on 2010 National Election, I want to give emphasis on things that politicians must think ahead before entering the circus of campaigning and electing. Still I don’t have any answer to the question despite of the hardship of being a president, why there are still aiming to win the position. Is it for the public service or self gain? I’m just hoping that anyone who reads my first article on this subject may initiate to be vanguard on choosing the candidate worthy for their vote. I appreciate ABS-CBN for having a system like Boto Mo I-Patrol Mo, where they empower the voters to report anomalies on the previous election and allow them to air their views through interactive platforms.

Why am I Blogging?

That's the common question people ask to the bloggers, why do you blog and what benefits you when you blog?

I can't say in behalf of the whole blogosphere, but in my almost a year of blogging on news, entertainment, society and events the only thing I can say is that there are stories that bloggers like myself -- even writers in print, television, movie, websites and advertisers -- has stories to share. Stories that people doesn't no, or stories that people knows but the way I present it may varies to the one they know, the style and way of story telling is important.

I'm counting down to my first blogsarry (blog anniversarry) on September. I can still remember of choosing Bad Blood Kramic (angry kramic), or Ang Sa Wari Ko (my opinion) as my title. I wanted to have a blog title that will generalize an idea on what I like to impose on my article and that is giving my side to the bigger story. Stories that people will love to read or sometimes doesn't. Schumey one of my mentor when I enter the a life of blogging tell me, that I can not pleased all with my articles. I must be ready for criticism and be used with it, as Arbet told me before when I encounter the word pathetic in my comment box, and it the word is addressed to me.

Making people read your blog entry is one of the challenge I encounter before, I never expected that people actually read my entries and even posted comment. When I write my views on the issue of Cheap Medicine Bill before, I am overwhelmed with the comments I received from the visitors I never thought visiting by blog. From their opinions, I learn more of what I have written in my entry. Sharing your part and learning from others is the most important thing I learn from blogging.

But not all is an easy publish like life in blogging, which I am encountering right now. I used to blog with Filipino language and it is hard for me to change the dialect to cater a wider audience. I am true to myself that I'm not that efficient with English language; and despite of this frustrations I can see visitors going to my blog, it may not be a large number of visitors but I am happy with it.

So there goes my blogging life and my journey continues.

Post Graduation Syndrome

- not all things that your teachers feed you is something you can use in the out side world.

Been there, been that, I have lots of ideas when I left school four years ago, yet cycle continues graduates now is becoming more idealistic rather than to be practical. I, myself have dream job and salary before and that is the fact that I hide my plans before I marched last March 2004 in CCP, where like others who practical I gave my handful of resumes to companies whom I hoping to be hired including the one I am working right now. I couldn't tell my other college friends that I had plans ahead of graduation, and I am sure they had plans more than I am planning and that was enjoying the summer breeze and tanning on the side.

I had enough of those things in my college life and I wanted more where I can benefit much, on longer term, well as the story goes, got my first work and I am having right now still before graduation, and that is the reason of my secret disappearance during the last few weeks before graduation and I didn't inform my friends.

Now, seeing graduates both practical and those enjoying summer breeze, one thing is common they are to ideals in terms of their plans and goals in life not to mention the salary. I remember someone telling me that there was a graduate asking for a 15, 000 pesos salary knowing that he/she is only a fresh graduate comparing that salary is we'll in my almost four years of working along with the frustrations and headaches still I could not avail to buy a car that is exclusive for my self, especially the one I am craving actually I am not into design and looks but with engines like Honda launches VCM 643 it is so cool. But still I can’t afford to buy one.

Being idealistic is nice, especially kung bibo ka sa klase not all would like that manners in the interview aside from the salary you are asking. One thing I learn is that don't put anything in your resume because you are giving a venue for lots of questions.

But I am sad of hearing the news that there are thousands who graduated yet the number of vacancies are few and unfortunately it doesn't cater other courses. Wish the government resolve that problem soon unless they are used with brain drain and unemployment despite of so many warnings.

When Love Begins... Star Cinema's latest Offering for April 30

My apologies on the rough video I just shot it through my TV at home and cable sucks that time so I switch to UHF for the mean time just to record the video and the frequency of Channel 2 on UHF is not that good.

Well, about the movie When Love Begins... is Star Cinema's offering for the last day of April so it will be Officially for May but Care Giver of Sharon Cuneta will follow for Star Cinema's Anniversary offering, last year it was " A Love Story by Aga Muhlach, Maricel Soriano and Angelica Panganiban.

Moving on with the movie, the movie is stared with two famous actor and actress in there generation, Aga Muhlach who did a big hit on A Love Story, and Anne Curtis whom the supporters of Maging Sino Ka Man had loved so much as Celine who in the 2nd book died in cancer and created a big impact to it's viewer.

When love begins is a story of two persons who fell in love to each other despite of their principles in life, where Aga plays the role of an environment activist while Anne is a daughter of a corporate company officer played by Christopher de Leon who have a project that will violate Aga's plight without Aga's awareness that Anne is his enemy's daughter. And revelation takes place and the story moves forward along with the conflicts of love and principles.

When Love begins will be aired on April 30, same date of Judy Ann Santos's digital movie entitled Ploning.

The government is firm on stating that there is no rice shortage where as Secretary Arthur Yap mention that there is 90% sufficient with 58 days allowance as seconded by Lorelie Fajardo, Deputy Speaker during her interview with Probe. But despite of this affirmation from President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, we witness several incidents of panic buying, product hording and price inflation not to mention instances if pest that plauge our farms where we harvest our rice.

The tales...

Stories has to sides and with the government claims that we should not panic because we sufficient yet they lifted the quota on rice imports. But the claim doesn't justify on what we are seeing on television and for others who experiencing now the panic in buying rice. In areas like in Legaspi City, it feels like you are in the process of voting, after buying NFA rice from the rolling stores of the government you are only require to consume 3 kilos of rice per day and along with it you need to be inked just like after voting. Cedula or ID is the initial requirements in buying NFA rice in Baguio City, where their aim is to sell rice alone for there Baguio City residence, same in Legazpi 3 kilos per day quota.
But quota doesn't hinders buyers in Commonwealth Market to buy larger amount of rice by bringing their family members to join the long line of consumers’ buying rice amounting 18.25 pesos per kilo, half the price of the commercial rice or more than half as inflation takes place each day.

With the lifting of quota on rice import, Paeng Mariano of Buklurang Magsasaka ng Pilipinas, he mention that “kawawa ang mga magsasaka dahil ang produsyon ng bigas ay sumasalalay na lang sa mga iniimport ng bansa, habang ang seguridad natin sa ating mga kinakain ay nawawala” he affirms the we are not sure on the quality on the rice we importing from country. Quirino Martinez of Consumers Union, he agrees with Paeng’s stand but Quirino mention that we should act first on the present needs of the people in short term.

The dilemma...

We witness how the buyers panic on buying rice which tends to household hoarding. Along with other product that affects inflation, basing on my economic class before, the higher demand of consumers which takes place on panic buying, it triggers on scarcity or lacking of products needed by consumers, it leads on the increase of price. Just like survival of the fittest. Not only rice is increasing on price for commercial rice and the shortage on low price NFA rice, it also includes our basic needs like sugar, oil, corn, flour and other. Speaking of flour, Juan dela Cruz'z pandesal is in the dilemma of shrinking again or its price increase. The supply of flour in the international market increases due to shortage of wheat. And the dilemma shall start on April 15.

Some says that this crisis will extend until 2010, as other political analysts mention that the government is riding on the clamor of shortage which is the easy way to set political scandals aside for the meantime including the on going battle cry on the probing for the ZTE Broadband Deal, Spratly, Hadjin Condominium approval in Subic Bay Metropolitan Center’s protected environment area, and other connected issues on PGMA, her family and his cabinet members. According to Representative Carlos Padilla of Nueva Ecija, he mentions that the event in Africa is already set before the rice crisis came in and there is a budget allotted to it.

Is there a light?

The Catholics Bishop Conference of the Philippines or CBCP extended their help to the government in selling and moderating the number of buying consumption of the buyers that tends to hordes. And eleven members of the congress lead by the former House Speaker Jose De Venecia and nine members of the Senate including Senator Nene Pimentel are going on an Inter-Parliamentary Union Conference on South Africa, which includes topic on poverty. And despite of the aim of the event, the issue on the amount that the Senate and Congress is shelling out for the event is becoming an issue where per head will cost more than a 300,000 pesos worth of expenses.

Now several fast food chains are joining on a campaign of rice conservation, campaign such as they are selling half rice. And the government states that they will track down corruption on the basic commodity which is rice and other basic needs.

Which is I am seeing right now that it is a black eye for the administration who is an economist that we are facing the problem on shortage on rice and more on food crisis. Where will this crisis leads us, I hope there will no more political intervention, target first the real problem instead of political gains, on the topic of rice shortage I neither stand as administration or opposition. Resolve how Juan dela Cruz feed himself and his family rather than bickering and issues concerning political gains and solve the issue on inflation and blowing population.

Who is Thomas Beatie?

I'm sure that some moralist is not agreeing with me when I say I admire the Filipino American Thomas Beatie, formerly know as Tracy Lagundino in her (I am using her in terms of his gender) coming out in public as a pregnant trans gender. Thomas is conceiving a 6 month fetus through the process of artificial insemination. It was not in the plan that she will have to take the baby in her womb but because Ellen her partner could not conceive she stood to take the challenge.

Thomas, joins beauty pageant in her "women-like" days and decides to undergo hormone injections as part of her trans gender sustaining needs.

Thomas Beatie with her partner Ellen was interviewed in Oprah, where her fame spreads and drives paparazzi to their place in Oragon. She is expecting to deliver her baby on July where the doctors advise her to stop taking hormones for the meantime to avoid necessary effect to the unborn child.

Pangea Day - Join Us - Connect with Us By Film and Music

Pictures can tell lot of stories, what's more with film that can show the emotions, the faces and the life of each character in the story. Film reflect lives and struggles. With Nokia we celebrate Pangea Day as we will witness 24 films within 4 hours to be shown globally on May 10, 2008, in locations in Cairo, Kigali, London, Los Angeles, Mumbai, and Rio de Janeiro and will be linked via satellite for a live program of powerful films, live music, and visionary speakers. The entire program will be broadcast – in seven languages – to millions of people worldwide through the internet, television, and mobile phones. For Filipinos we can watch the event of Pangea Day through their website.

What Pangea Day?

"In a world where people are often divided by borders, difference, and conflict, it's easy to lose sight of what we all have in common. Pangea Day seeks to overcome that — to help people see themselves in others — through the power of film.

It will be a chance for people around the globe to see the world through someone else's eyes. We're calling it the world's first global campfire: A day when we share stories made by the world for the world.

Movies alone can't change the world. But the people who watch them can."

But the main idea of Pangea Day is let the people unite by means of films and music, where through this craft people can present their ideas not only for themselves for for all. For Pangea Day we will learn each others story of great love, powerful friendship and the combat of fears. To be one again, without border, without division as one continent just like before in Pangea.

Rice Shortage Issue

Regarding the situation on the issue of Rice Shortage in the country the only word I can describe is that it is "CONFUSING"

If there is no shortage how come there is panic? How come there is inflation?

People needs explanation not by saying we don't have shortage in rice alone...

Separation of state and church: is there a such?

As of now the government is weak and divided by means of belief, power and political gain. During the height of the ZTE broadband scandal where Jun Lozada and Joey De Venecia comes out to the open and reveals their knowledge about the said scandal it marks a big issue not only wounded the government but it separates the faithfuls also. The issue of morality takes place where unfortunately the church right now is thorned between who are pros and who are antis.

But despite to this moral apprehensions in the government the divided church from the pros like CBCP issued a statement on government transparency and calls for the truth yet they haven't mention anything striking like in the days of the late Jaime Cardinal Sin. Cardinal Sin, a political figure who persuades the people to come out from the darkness of martial law and started street parliamentary known to be EDSA revolution. But Cardinal Sin lives no more where only Bishops like Oscar Cruz is firm with the call for the resignation of the president they once positioned in the office.

Divided and wounded, that is how I describe the present stage of the country where people is thorned between their civil rights and the call of their belief despite of the virtue imposed by the Church who still have a week stand concerning the issue. I hope the warning on taxing the church didn't silence their conviction of spreading the quest for truth that changes to a safe campaign rather than a turning point like with the late Cardinal Sin.

Bishop Cruz 'z statement on not giving communion to the sinners strikes an idea of putting President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo on a spotlight with a banner she is a sinner. But on a latter days of this issue Bishop Cruz corrected his statement yet it doesn't stop several administration politicians on asking for his sanction from his colleagues in the CBCP. Aside from Bishop Oscar, the members of the Jesuits Fathers is asking their church members to push their congressmen and representative to support the campaign against PGMA.

Quoting the Philippine Constitution, "
The separation of Church and State shall be inviolable." (Article 2, DECLARATION OF PRINCIPLES AND STATE POLICIES, Principles, Section 6) But in the present setting of the country this doesn't happen. From politicians using the church vote in favor for their political gain and Church opposing against political exercises like making sex education as part of public school curriculum.

The topic and debate is wide and broad but one thing we should know that where to stand despite of the mumbling thought that am I holding for my civil responsibility or am I standing with my religious affiliation.

Who is Brian Gorrell?

Last night, it was my first time to see Brian Gorrell in person aside from reading his post in The Talented Mr. Montano and it shows that he is a victim of the socialite class where he was swindled with $70, 000 and hoping it will go to a restaurant and a travel booking company, where his former boyfriend promised. Unfortunately he was been fooled by the former columnist boyfriend and a member of the socialite class who was mentioned by Brian, involves with the issue of selling and using drugs in the party.

Brian is now getting ready to transfer to Canada in three months where his present house will be given to it's new owner. But what's good with Brian (not that I'am not a socialite fan) is that he takes the courage to tell the whole world through his blog all the substance that people should know, which I am religiously following. And with impact. Wish him all the luck!
