Jamby Madrigal is running for 2010!

Bookmark and Share

Bookmark and Share

Bagong learning rin kasi ito for me. The training will definitely help me not only with this project. More on action din kasi.

Show your support for the former President Corazon Aquino

http://coryaquino.ph

The website was launch last 2007 at ngayon ay muling pinupuntahan na sya ng mga tao hindi para magcheck ng biography or mga ginawa niya noong presidente pa sya kundi para magbigay ng kanilang suporta at panalangin para kay Tita Cory.

http://twibbon.com/join/Yellow-Ribbon-for-Pres-Cory

Transcript of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo 2009 State of the Nation Address #sona

Bookmark and Share

Thank you, Speaker Nograles, Senate President Enrile, Senators, Representatives, Vice President de Castro, President Ramos, Chief Justice Puno, Ambassadors, friends:

The past twelve months have been a year for the history books. Financial meltdown in the West spread throughout the world.

Tens of millions lost their jobs; billions across the globe have been hurt—the poor always harder than the rich. No one was spared..

It has affected us already. But the story of the Philippines in 2008 is that the country weathered a succession of global crises in fuel, in food, then in finance and finally the economy in a global recession, never losing focus and with economic fundamentals intact.

A few days ago, Moody’s has just announced the upgrade of our credit rating, citing the resilience of our economy. The state of our nation is a strong economy. Good news for our people, bad news for our critics.

I did not become President to be popular. To work, to lead, to protect and preserve our country, our people, that is why I became President. When my father left the Presidency, we were second to Japan. I want our Republic to be ready for the first world in 20 years.

Towards that vision, we made key reforms. Our economic plan centers on putting people first. New tax revenues were put in place to help pay for better healthcare, more roads, a strong education system. Housing policies were designed to lift up our poorest citizens so they can live and raise a family with dignity. Ang ating mga puhunan sa agrikultura ay naglalayong kilalanin ang ating mga magsasaka bilang backbone ng ating bansa, at bigyan sila ng mga modernong kagamitan to feed our nation and feed their own family..

Had we listened to the critics of those policies, had we not braced ourselves for the crisis that came, had we taken the easy road much preferred by politicians eyeing elections, this country would be flat on its back. It would take twice the effort just to get it back again on its feet—to where we are now because we took the responsibility and paid the political price of doing the right thing. For standing with me and doing the right thing, thank you, Congress.

The strong, bitter and unpopular revenue measures of the past few years have spared our country the worst of the global financial shocks. They gave us the resources to stimulate the economy. Nabigyan nila ang pinakamalaking pagtaas ng IRA ng mga LGU na P40 billion itong taon, imparting strength throughout the country and at every level of government.

Compared to the past, we have built more and better infrastructure, including those started by others but left unfinished. The Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway is a prime example of building better roads. It creates wealth as the flagship of the Subic-Clark corridor.

We have built airports of international standard, upgraded domestic airports, built seaports and the RORO system. I ask Congress for a Philippine Transport Security Authority Law..

Some say that after this SONA, it will be all politics. Sorry, but there’s more work..

We need to amend the Commonwealth-era Public Service Law. And we need to do it now..

Kung noong nakaraan, lumakas ang electronics, today we are creating wealth by developing the BPO and tourism sectors as additional engines of growth. Electronics and other manufactured exports rise and fall in accordance with the state of the world economy. But BPO remains resilient. With earnings of $6 billion and employment of 600,000, the BPO phenomenon speaks eloquently of our competitiveness and productivity. Let us have a Department of ICT..

In the last four years tourism almost doubled. It is now a $5 billion industry.

Our reforms gave us the resources to protect our people, our financial system and our economy from the worst of shocks that the best in the west failed to anticipate..

They gave us the resources to do reforms para palawakin ang suportang panlipunan and enhance spending power. For helping me raise salaries through joint resolution, thank you Congress.

Cash handouts give the most immediate relief and produce the widest stimulating effect.

Our preference is to invest in projects with the same stimulus effects but also with long-term contributions to national progress..

Napapanahon dahil it will unfreeze the rural property market.

Good luck, Gigi.

Nakinabang ang isang milyong pamilya sa programang pabahay at palupa, mula sa PAG-IBIG, NHA, community mortgage program, certificates of lot awards, at saka yung inyong Loan Condonation and Restructuring Act..

Our average inflation is the lowest since 1966. Last June, it dropped to 1.5%. Paano nakamit ito? Proper policies lowered interest rates, which lowered costs to business and consumers.

Congratulations, Tarnati. We will help more fisherfolk shift to fish farming with a budget of P1 billion.

Our efforts prodded the pharmaceutical companies to come up with low-cost generics and brands like RiteMed. I supported the tough version of the House of the Cheaper Medicine Law. I supported it over the weak version of my critics. The result: the drug companies volunteered to bring down drug prices, slashing by half the prices of 16 drugs. Thank you, Congressman Cua, Alvarez, Biron and Locsin..

Pursuant to law, I am placing other drugs under a maximum retail price. To those who want to be President, this advice: If you want something done, do it hard, do it well. Don’t pussyfoot. Just do it. Don't say bad words in public.

EPIRA dismantled monopoly. But minana natin iyong power purchase agreements under preceding administrations, so hindi pa natin makuha iyong buong intended effect. The next generation will benefit from low prices from our EPIRA. Thank you.

We increased indigenous energy from 48% to 58%. The huge reduction in fossil fuel is the biggest proof of energy independence and environmental responsibility. Further reduction will come with the implementation of the Renewable Energy Act.and the Biofuels Act..again, thank you.

The next generation will also benefit from our lower public debt to GDP ratio. It declined from 78% in 2000 to 55% in 2008. We cut in half the debt of government corporations from 15% to 7. Likewise foreign debt from 73% to 32%. Past administrations conjured the demon of foreign debt. We exorcised it..

The market grows economies. A free market, not a free-for-all.

To that end, we improved our banking system to complement its inherent conservatism. The Bangko Sentral has been prudent. Thank you, Governor Tetangco, for being so effective. The BSP will be even more effective if Congress will amend its Charter..

We worked on the Special Purpose Vehicle Act, reducing non-performing loans from 18% to 4% and improving loan-deposit ratios..

Our new Securitization Law did not encourage the recklessness that brought down giant banks and insurance companies elsewhere and laid their economies to waste. In fact, it monitors and regulates the new-fangled financial schemes. Thank you, Congress..

We will work to increase tax effort through improved collections and new sin taxes to further our capacity to reduce poverty and pursue growth. Revenue enhancement must come from the Department of Finance plugging leaks and catching tax and customs cheats. I call on tax-paying citizens and tax-paying businesses: help the BIR and Customs spot those cheats…

Taxes should come from alcohol and tobacco and not from books. Tax hazards to lungs and livers, do not tax minds.

Pardon my partiality for the teaching profession. I was a teacher..

Ang magandang edukasyon ay susi sa mas mabuting buhay, the great equalizer that allows every young Filipino a chance to realize their dreams.

We assist financially half of all students in private high schools..

We have provided 600,000 college and post-graduate scholarships. One of them Mylene Amerol-Macumbal, finished Accounting at MSU-IIT, went to law school, and placed second in the last bar exams--the first Muslim woman bar topnotcher. Congratulations.

In technical education and skills training, we have invested three times that of three previous administrations combined. Now, as an independent contractor and lecturer for transcriptions in Davao, kumikita siya ng P18,000 bawat buwan. Good job.

The Presidential Task Force on Education headed by Jesuit educator Father Bienvenido Nebres has come out with the Main Education Highway towards a Knowledge-Based Economy. It envisions seamless education from basic to vocational school or college..

It seeks to mainstream early childhood development in basic education. Our children are our most cherished possession. In their early years we must make sure they get a healthy start in life. They must receive the right food for a healthy body, the right education for a bright and inquiring mind—and the equal opportunity for a meaningful job..

For college admission, the Task Force recommends mandatory Scholastic Aptitude Tests. It also recommends that private higher education institutions and state universities and colleges should be harmonized. It also recommends that CHED will oversee of local universities and colleges. For professions seeking international recognition—engineering, architecture, accountancy, pharmacy and physical therapy—it recommends radical reform: 10 years of basic education, two years of pre-university, three years of university.

Our educational system should make the Filipino fit not just for whatever jobs happen to be on offer today, but also for whatever economic challenge life will throw in their way..

I know that this is not a sacrifice joyfully borne. This is work where it can be found—in faraway places, among strangers with different cultures. It is lonely work, it is very hard work..

Kaya nagsisikap tayong lumikha ng mga trabahong maganda ang bayad dito sa atin so that overseas work will just be a career choice, not the only option for a hardworking Filipino in search of a better life.

Meanwhile, we should make their sacrifices worthwhile. That means stronger consumer protection for OFWs investing in property and products back home.

Mula sa ating State Visit to Spain, it has become our biggest European donor.

We thank all the world leaders who have shown compassion to our OFWs, Maraming salamat po.

Our vigorous international engagement has helped bring in foreign investment. Net foreign direct investments multiplied 15 times during our administration.

Our vigorous international engagement has helped bring in foreign investment. Net foreign direct investments multiplied 15 times during our administration. Kasama ng ating mga OFWs, they more than doubled our foreign exchange reserves. They upgraded our credit because while the reserves of our peers shrunk our reserves grew by $3 billion.

Our international engagement has also corrected historical injustice. The day we visited Washington, Senator Daniel Inouye successfully sponsored benefits for our veterans as part of America’s fiscal stimulus package.

I have accepted the invitation of President Obama to be the first Southeast Asian leader to meet him at the White House, this week.

That he sought us the Philippines testifies to our strong and deep ties.

High on our agenda will be peace and security issues. Terrorism: how to meet it, how to end it, how to address its roots in injustice and prejudice—and most and always how to protect lives.

We will also discuss nuclear non-proliferation. The Philippines will chair the review of the nuclear weapons non-proliferation Treaty in New York in May 2010. The success of the talks will be a major diplomatic achievement for us.

There is a range of other issues we will discuss, including the global challenge of climate change, especially the threat to countries with long coastlines. And there is the global recession, its worse impact on poor people, and the options that can spare them from the worst.

In 2008 up to the first quarter of 2009 we stood among only a few economies in Asia-Pacific that did not shrink. Compare this in 2001, when some of my current critics were driven out by people power, Asia was then surging but our country was on the brink of bankruptcy.

Since then, our economy has posted uninterrupted growth for 33 quarters; more than doubled its size from $76 billion to $186 billion. The average GDP growth from 2001 to the first quarter of 2009 is the highest in 43 years.

GNP per capita rose from a Third World $967 to $2,051. Lumikha tayo ng walong milyong trabaho, an average of a million per year, much, much more than at any other time.

In sum:

1. We have a strong economy in a strong fiscal position to withstand political shocks.
2. We built new modern infrastructure and completed unfinished ones.
3. The economy is more fair to the poor than ever before.
4. We are building a sound base for the next generation.
5. International authorities have taken notice that we are safer from environmental degradation and man-made disasters.

As a country in the path of typhoons and in the Pacific Rim of Fire, we must be as prepared as the latest technology permits to anticipate natural calamities when that is possible; to extend immediate and effective relief when it is not….The mapping of flood- and landslide-prone areas is almost complete. Early warning, forecasting and monitoring systems have been improved, with weather tracking facilities in Subic, Tagaytay, Mactan, Mindanao, Pampanga.

We have worked on flood control infrastructure like those for Pinatubo, Agno, Laoag, and Abucay, which will pump the run off waters from Quezon City and Tondo flooding Sampaloc. This will help relieve hundreds of hectares in this old city of its age-old woe.

The victims of typhoon Frank in Panay should receive their long-overdue assistance package. I ask Congress to pass the SNITS Law.

Nahuli noong 2006. She is now involved in an LGU-supported handicraft livelihood training of former rebels. We love you, Leah!

There is now a good prospect for peace talks both with both the Communist Party of the Philippines and the MILF, with whom we are now on ceasefire.

We inherited an age-old conflict in Mindanao, exacerbated by a politically popular but near-sighted policy of massive retaliation. This only provoked the other side to continue the war.

In these two internal conflicts, ang tanong ay hindi, “Sino ang mananalo?” kundi, bakit ba kailangang mag-away ang kapwa Pilipino tungkol sa mga isyu na alam ng dalawang panig over issues na malulutas naman sa paraang demokratiko.

There is nothing more that I would wish for than peace in Mindanao. It will be a blessing for all its people, Muslim, Christian and lumads. It will show other religiously divided communities that there can be common ground on which to live together in peace, harmony and cooperation that respects each other’s religious beliefs.

At sa lahat ng dako ng bansa, kailangan nating protektahan an gating mamamayan kontra sa krimen -- in their homes, in their neighborhoods, in their communities. How shall crime be fought? Through the five pillars of justice. We call on Congress to fund more policemen on the streets.

Real government is about looking beyond the vested to the national interest, setting up the necessary conditions to enable the next, more enabled and more empowered generation to achieve a country as prosperous, a people as content, as ours deserve to be.

The noisiest critics of constitutional reform tirelessly and shamelessly attempted Cha-Cha when they thought they could take advantage of a shift in the form of government. Now that they feel they cannot benefit from it, they oppose it.

As the process of fundamental political reform begins, let us address the highest exercise of democracy.voting!

In 2001, I said we would finance fully automated elections. We got it, thanks to Congress.

At the end of this speech I shall step down from this stage, but not from the Presidency. My term does not end until next year. Until then, I will fight for the ordinary Filipino. The nation comes first. There is much to do as head of state—to the very last day.

A year is a long time. There are many perils that we must still guard against.

A man-made calamity is already upon us, global in scale. As I said earlier, so far we have been spared its worst effects but we cannot be complacent. We only know that we have generated more resources on which to draw, and thereby created options we could take. Thank God we did not let our critics stop us.

As the campaign unfolds and the candidates take to the airwaves, I ask them to talk more about how they will build up the nation rather than tear down their opponents. Our candidates must understand the complexities of our government and what it takes to move the country forward. Give the electorate real choices and not just sweet talk.

Meanwhile, I will keep a steady hand on the tiller, keeping the ship of state away from the shallows some prefer, and steering it straight on the course I set in 2001.

These qualities are epitomized in someone like Manny Pacquiao.Manny trained tirelessly, by the book, with iron discipline, with the certain knowledge that he had to fight himself, his weaknesses first, before he could beat his opponent. That was the way to clinch his victories and his ultimate title: ang pinakadakilang boksingero sa kasaysayan.Mabuhay ka, Manny!

However much a President wishes it, a national problem cannot be knocked out with a single punch. A president must work with the problem as much as against it, and turn it into a solution if I can.

There isn’t a day I do not work at my job or a waking moment when I do not think through a work-related problem. Even my critics cannot begrudge the long hours I put in. Our people deserve-a-government that works just as hard as they do.

A President must be on the job 24/7, ready for any contingency, any crisis, anywhere, anytime.

Everything right can be undone by even a single wrong. Every step forward must be taken in the teeth of political pressures and economic constraints that could push you two steps back-if-you flinch and falter. I have not flinched, I have not faltered. Hindi ako umaatras sa hamon.

And I have never done any of the things that have scared my worst critics so much. They are frightened by their own shadows.

In the face of attempted coups, I issued emergency proclamations just in case. But I was able to resolve these military crises with the ordinary powers of my office. My critics call it dictatorship. I call it determination. We know it as strong government.

But I never declared martial law, though they are running scared as if I did. In truth, what they are really afraid of is their weakness in the face of this self-imagined threat.

I say to them: do not tell us what we all know, that democracy can be threatened. Tell us what you will do when it is attacked.

I know what to do.

I know what to do, as I have shown, I will defend democracy with arms when it is threatened by violence; with firmness when it is weakened by division; with law and order where it is subverted by anarchy; and always, I will try to sustain it by wise policies of economic progress, so that a democracy means not just an empty liberty but a full life for all.

I never expressed the desire to extend myself beyond my term. Many of those who accuse me of it tried to cling like nails to their posts.

I am accused of misgovernance. Many of those who accuse me of it left me the problem of their misgovernance to solve. And we did it.

I am falsely accused, without proof, of using my office for personal profit. Many of those who accuse me of it have lifestyles and spending habits that make them walking proofs of that crime.

We can read their frustrations. They had the chance to serve this good country and they blew it by serving themselves.

Those who live in glass houses should cast no stones. Those who should be in jail should not threaten it, especially if they have been there.

Our administration, with the highest average rate of growth, recording multiple increases in investments, with the largest job creation in history, and which gets a credit upgrade at the height of a world recession, must be doing something right, even if some of those cocooned in corporate privilege refuse to recognize it.

Governance, however, is not about looking back and getting even. It is about looking forward and giving more—to the people who gave us the greatest, hardest gift of all: the care of a country.

From Bonifacio at Balintawak to Cory Aquino at EDSA and up to today, we have struggled to bring power to the people, and this country to the eminence it deserves.

Today the Philippines is weathering well the storm that is raging around the world. It is growing stronger with the challenge. When the weather clears, as it will, there is no telling how much farther forward it can go. Believe in it. I believe.

We can and we must-march-forward-with-hope, optimism and determination.

We must come together, work together and walk together toward the future.

And to the people of our good country, for allowing me to serve as your President, maraming salamat.

Mabuhay ang Pilipinas.

President Glora Macapagal Arroyo’s 9th State of The Nation Address: Ito na ba ang huli?

Bookmark and Share

President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo’s 2001 -2008 State of The Nation Address

Bookmark and Share

Before the clock strikes at 4PM, on July 27, 2009 where classes in all level is suspended in Metro Manila because of the 2 events happening on that day, 95th Anniversary of Iglesia Ni Cristo and the last or the 9th State of the Nation of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. In her 9th year in her term as the president of the Philippines from replacing the ousted president Joseph Ejercito Estrada and her re-election on 2004 let’s recall and run down details of her 8 State of the Nation Address as we prepare to listen on her last on the 27th of July.

2001 State of the Nation Address – July 23, 2001

2002 State of the Nation Address – July 22, 2009

“I know that it is to me that those many Filipinos are looking for the vindication of their decision to go to Edsa. I shall not disappoint them.
It is for them that I am working hard on that stone that will fit just above my father’s, adding security to social justice, and prosperity to the promise of social equality in which he believed so much.

Toward the achievement of this strong republic, i shall bring to bear the full weight of the Executive, and call upon local government officials, to add their own. This is our common struggle, it shall be our shared victory. “

2003 State of the Nation Address – July 28, 2003

2004 State of the Nation Address – July 26, 2004

“I ask Congress to pass a law on government re-engineering, with silver parachutes for redundant offices. Once we have proved to our people that we have done what we can within the present structure of government, we can move on to changing the system to one that enhances our freedom and flexibility to do more. I expect that next year, Congress will start considering the resolutions for charter change.”

2005 State of the Nation Address – July 25, 2005

“The system clearly needs fundamental change and the sooner the better. It's time to start the great debate on charter change. We must address such questions as how much more government is needed for the greater safety and economic security of our people, and how much less government is more conducive to free enterprise and economic progress. The mode of Charter change is the exclusive prerogative of Congress. But a constituent assembly may well give our people the quickest reforms. I shall work with Congress, civil society groups and local government executives who are convinced that Charter changes are needed to enable the country to surmount the unprecedented challenges of the 21st century.”

2006 State of the Nation Address – July 24, 2006

“For those who want to pick up old fights, we're game but what a waste of time. Why not join hands instead? Join hands in the biggest challenge of all, where we all win or we all lose: the battle for the survival and progress of our one and only country. After three years, eleven months, and six days, I shall relinquish the Presidency, with much if not all that I have outlined completed. I do not want it said then that, in the end, I defeated my enemies. I would rather have it said that all of us, you and I, friends and foes today, achieved together a country progressive, prosperous and united.”

2007 State of the Address – July 23, 2007

By then poverty shall have been marginalized; and the marginalized raised to a robust middle class. We will have achieved the hallmarks of a modern society, where institutions are strong. By 2010, the Philippines should be well on its way to achieving that vision.”

2008 State of the Nation Address – July 28, 2008

We are three branches but one government. We have our disagreements; we each have hopes, and ambitions that drive and divide us, be they personal, ethnic, religious and cultural. But we are one nation with one fate.”

Bookmark and Share

"The doctrines of the INC never change. INC's teachings are solely based on the Bible. Some of the main doctrines of the church include: the belief of one God--- the Father, belief in the Lord Jesus Christ as the begotten Son of God and he's recognized as the church's head, the necessity of church membership in attaining salvation", ayon kay Magat.

The INC takes a progressive stand on reproductive health. As long as the government's suggestive method on family planning doesn't promote abortion, the INC is all-out in supporting it."

Blog Action Day: No To Charter Change! #conass

Bookmark and Share

Supporters offers prayers and yellow ribbons for Former President Cory Aquino

Bookmark and Share

On his intention to run for president in 2010.

On his real estate properties.
“I’ve been a movie actor, a superstar for quite a long time…I made my earnings there. I invested a lot in real estate…Now, to cut the long story short, I have no more property. Because when I became president, I diverted it all to the corporation of the family… which I’m not included, okay?”

On the reproductive health bill. Sa madaling salita, malaking problema ang ating population growth…we are creating potential prostitutes, potential criminals due to no fault of their own, because they were not given opportunities in life…Dapat mabigyan ng edukasyon. You (should) teach the mothers the right size of family that they can afford.”

On the Hayden Kho sex video scandal. Dapat nilagay niya doon, ‘For Adults Only.’ Joking aside.. ako, tutol ako diyan. Dapat i-ban ang mga ganyan sa internet dahil it is corrupting the minds of our young people.”

loren-legarda

Loren Legarda
Political Affiliation: Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC)
Vision of Governance: “Tao muna, bago tayo.”

If she’s willing to run only as vice-president.

On her wealth. “I was born to a middle class family in Malabon. I’ve been working since I was 15 years old and—I’m not ashamed—as a commercial model, as a TV host, as a producer since I was 18. I’m 49 now. I’ve worked all my adult life and I’m proud of what I’ve achieved.”

On the continuing migration of Filipino workers. “First of all there is nothing wrong with migration. Migration is part of globalization and we are mighty proud of our overseas Filipinos who have brought in billions and billions of dollars to keep our Philippine economy afloat. What is important is that we provide them with the social safety nets so that the problems that abound because of separation from families do not happen as a rule.

On the reproductive health bill. “I am against any form of abortion. But I am for an informed choice for the women of our country…It is important that the women are allowed to be able to make enlightened and informed decisions about their body. We must also do everything we can to bring down the level of maternal mortality. It is growing because of a lack of knowledge, lack of information.”

jejomar-binay

Jejomar Binay
Political Affiliation: UNO-PDP-LABAN
Vision of Governance: ‘To provide the people with opportunities for advancement, services they deserve and the chance to live with dignity.’

On his priority once elected president. “Ang advocacy ko is a strong local government...I sincerely believe when the barangay is progressive, your town or city will also be progressive. And if the town or city would be progressive, then the province would also be progressive. And when the provinces would be progressive, you’ll find a progressive Philippines.”

On corruption allegations against him.
“Ang tatay ko taga-Bauan, Batangas. Ang nanay ko taga-Cabagan, Isabela. Ito ay mga bayan at lalawigan na ang laging sinasabi: masisipag at tsaka matiyaga sa hanapbuhay...If I was able to manage and administer—to make what Makati is now, siguro, yun namang management and administration style ko, pwede ko namang gamitin sa negosyo ko.”

On the most important quality in a Supreme Court Justice. “Eto hong magiging Justice natin, eh ‘yung kanyang gagawing desisyon ay kaya niya pong ipagtanggol sa Diyos at sa tao...Hindi ho ‘yung katulad ng nangayayari ngayon, maraming mga Justices, binabali ang tunay na provisions of the law dahil sa ang nangunguna, loyalty to and upon orders of the people in Malacanang.”

On corruption allegations against the Arroyo family. “I think Mrs. Arroyo will have to answer all of these accusations of graft and corruption.

Bayani Fernando Jr.

Bayani Fernando
Political Affiliation:
Lakas-CMD
Vision of Governance: ‘For change to happen, order must be put first.’

On the reason behind his presidential bid.

On being the “richest” Marikina mayor ever. Pero 25 years… Kamuntik ko nang makalimutang mag-asawa dahil sa naghanap buhay ako for 25 years.”

On why public money should be used in the elections.
Pati contributions from private individuals and firms hindi nila tinatanggap. It’s all government spending for the elections. Para wala nang babawiin ang sino man. Walang dahilan para bumawi.”

On the reproductive health bill. “I follow the precepts of my church. And so I am not for modern contraceptions (sic). But I’m for natural ways of limiting the number of children to affordable level.”

ANC will air the event live at 7 p.m. with replays on Studio 23 on August 1 at 7 p.m. and on ABS-CBN Sunday’s Best on August 2 at 10:15 p.m.

Pope Benedict XVI leads the prayer for the former president Corazon Aquino

Bookmark and Share

After masses were held in different parts of the country and other Filipino communities abroad, it's the Vatican’s turn to offer prayers for the recovery of the former president Corazon Aquino from colon cancer. The prayer is headed by Pope Benedict XVI.

Pope Benedict XVI expressed his spiritual closeness to Tita Cory through his communique issued by the Apostolic Nunciature in the Philippines. Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, the secretary of State of Vatican, was the one who updates the pope about the condition of the former president.

After the announcement in her afternoon showbiz program The Buzz, Kris Aquino the youngest among the siblings of Cory Aquino, remained in the hospital to be with her mother. Last Sunday on The Buzz, Kris mentioned that her mom is suffering with stage 4 colon cancer and she is in pain. Tita Cory has been at Makati Medical Center for almost a month for treatment. Aside from the Vatican, US Ambassador to the Philippines Kristie Kenny led a healing mass last July 22 at the Manila City Hall along with the supporters of Tita Cory including Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim.

According to the spokeswoman of the Aquino family, Cory Aquino is leaving her faith to God and has given up all the medication including her chemotherapy.

Vilma Santos in all Saturdays of August on ABS-CBN

Bookmark and Share

Kris Aquino admits that her mother Corazon Aquino is in pain

Bookmark and Share

Harvest Day at Gerona Tarlac with Gawad Kalinga’s Bayan-Anihan

Bookmark and Share

“Give a man a fish and he’ll eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will eat for the rest of his life.”

Gawad Kalinga wanted to empower the people on how they can help themselves to stand for their family and not by asking help from others. After inilunsad ang Bayan Anihan ng Gawad Kalinga sa Cainta Rizal sa GK Selecta Village, ay sumama naman ako sa Gerona Tarlac, yes I took my leave just to be part of this campaign and to experience to see how people from Gerona Tarlac unite and work together para buhayin nila ang kani kanilang mga pamilya mula sa tulong ng Gawad Kalinga sa kanila.

Harry Potter 6: The Half Blood Prince – It’s dramatic not magical

Bookmark and Share

Like we all expected Harry Potter 6: Half Blood Prince is the saddest and emotional among the 7 books that JK Rowling created for the Harry Potter series. The movie like other Harry Potter film, the Half Blood Prince is not that glossy or warm in terms of texture maybe because it is the way how Warner Bros wanted to deliver the theme of the movie and that is tragic. For those Harry Potter virgins, yes someone died on this film and it is Albus Dumbledore, the headmaster of Hogwarts School of magic and wizardry. Hogwarts is the school where Harry Potter, and his two friends Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley is studying.

For those who loved book 6 or The Half Blood Prince, yes I feel your disappointment especially if you wanted to see the funeral of Dumbledore in the movie, unfortunately its not there. The movie ends on the discovery that the horxus which the medallion that Dumbledore and Harry found in the cave is fake. Again like what I say on my entries about books being adapted to a movie, film makers and producers has the right to change or purge several scenes to trim down the movie to 2 hours or 2 hours and 30 minutes, they don’t want to take much time of the viewers unless they wanted to bore them. Aside from trimming, film makers also do this for visual aesthetics for the movie, including the texture and the graphics.

Harry Potter 6: The Half Blood Prince is now showing on worldwide, also on 3D IMAX on SM MALLS for visual 3D experience for the selected scenes, and on Trinoma THX for those who wanted heart pumping and adrenalin rushing Dolby sounds.

ABS-CBN ILULUNSAD ANG “SONA MO, IPATROL MO”

Bookmark and Share

Francis Escudero, Sen. Francis Pangilinan, Sen. Loren Legarda, Sen. Manuel Villar, Sen. Manuel Roxas II, Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro, Isabela Gov. Grace Padaca, at Interior and Local Government Secretary Ronaldo Puno.

Good Bye Gutom with Gawad Kalinga’s Bayan Anihan

Bookmark and Share

Tulad ng isang lumang Chinese Proverb, “Give a man a fish and he’ll eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will eat for the rest of his life.”

Maging parte ng laban kontra gutom visit their website at BayanAnihan.com.

CHRISTOPHER DE LEON REIGNS LIKE A KING INSIDE THE CINEMA!

Bookmark and Share

Philippine Cinema to this day acknowledges only one man whom everybody considers the Drama King. On July 14 at 8:30 pm, Cinema One’s Inside the Cinema host Boy Abunda sits down for an intimate tete-a-tete “one of the most brilliant actors in Philippine Cinema of all time,” Christopher de Leon.

After over 25 awards, nearly 100 movies and a host of notices from peers, professionals and working with wonderful and equally multi-awarded actresses and the best directors, it is fascinating to note that for over four decades, the man born Christopher Strauss de Leon in 1956 still reigns supreme with no heir apparent. Though it helps that he comes from a family of actors with parents Gil de Leon and Lilia Dizon, Pinky de Leon his sister, he instantly catapulted to lead star status in his debut film Tinimbang Ka Ngunit Kulang (1974) and won his first Best Actor award in FAMAS. But a fascinating trivia that went along with the movie’s success was the sexy publicity shot: he was an 18 year old naked lad on the beach with only a branch covering his front. The picture where he combines mestizo good looks with roguish simpatico-ism, appeared in Women’s magazine drew great attention. Now at 53 and still youthfully attractive, the loving husband to seasoned actress Sandy Andolong engages in a revealing talk with host Abunda.

Only on Inside the Cinema will the multi-awarded actor be candid about who Boyet is onscreen and offscreen. Admitting his vanity, he divulges “I spend a long time in the bathroom…I take care of my skin,” and even admits an alternative career had he not been an actor “I could have been an artist or a painter because I draw a lot eh,” initially for why he took up Fine Arts at the UERM.

Boyet was cast with the best actresses like the sultry Dina Bonnevie, beauty queen Gloria Diaz, Diamond Star Maricel Soriano, Lorna Tolentino whom he calls “one of a kind” . Hilda Koronel who ha s “expressive eyes and photographic memory”. Charo Santos Concio “on a pedestal”. Sharon Cuneta “very emotional”. Vilma Santos “ generous, very external and giving” , while Nora Aunor is “superb, intense and she’s the one with depth.” This leads to teasy off screen trivias with host Abunda when talks usher towards The Superstar and The Star for All Seasons, two of the biggest names in local cinema he has relationships with. Noting that Banawe was his first movie with Aunor and where he fell for her, and reveals their Beachside Wedding “was my idea, because I wanted it to be solemn.” After their separation came the hit Tag-Ulan sa Tag-Araw , his first movie with Vilma where they also did strike an affair. While Ikaw ay Akin was where he had them both as leading ladies. Ultimately telling without any reservation how he choreographs his love scenes for he never wanted to take advantage of his leading ladies. But rousing laughter follows with his answer when Abunda asks who is the better kisser, Superstar or Star for All Seasons?

Simultaneously recalling and reminiscing the various roles and movies he was lucky to be directed by the most brilliant directors Boyet even reveals the scenarios, compromises, even disagreements he had with film-makers but becomes cerebral on describing them. Chito Roño is “technically good”. Ishmael Bernal “dynamic. He deals with the deep emotions of your character ”. Lino Brocka “he’s the actor’s director. He tells you where to look when you deliver a particular line” . Mike de Leon “helps you bring out the distinction of your character” . Olivia Lamasan is “wonderful and perfectionist” . Rory Quintos “likes the intensity” . Eddie Romero “is strict with his material” . Celso Ad Castillo “is the Messiah”.

Blessed with talent plus his fortune to successfully keep a name and good reputation in a fast and finicky industry, Christopher de Leon states the what he learned in his career gave him the wisdom an actor needs which gave him the balance and energy above all “ the dedication and discipline I give in my work to make things work”. Because it solves little problems like when a co-actor fails to give what’s required in a scene. He meets an agreement with a director on how to attack his character. Plus successfully discerns how to handle his love scenes “I choreograph them”.

Do not ever miss the Drama King, Christopher de Leon on Inside the Cinema with host Boy Abunda on July 14 (Tuesday) at 8:30 pm. Replays will be on July 19 (Sunday) at 1:15 am and July 20 (Monday) at 10:00 pm on Cinema One. Available from SkyCable Gold, SkyCable Silver and other quality cable operators nationwide.

Star Cinema's Official Statement on Why Angel Locsin cannot do Mano Po 6

Bookmark and Share

I personally spoke with Mother Lily of Regal Films to explain why Angel Locsin cannot do "Mano Po 6." Angel would love to do a movie with Megastar Sharon Cuneta, but unfortunately, she could not accept the project because of her prior commitments and busy schedules. After doing the TV series "Only You," Angel will start shooting two movies---one with Aga Muhlach under the direction of Cathy Garcia- Molina and another with Director Chito Rono. Afterwhich, she will start taping for a new Teleserye.

I hope this will put the issue to rest. Thank you for your understanding and continued support to Angel Locsin.

ABS-CBN'S TOP JOURNALISTS TO TRAIN CITIZENS IN PATROLLING FOR THE ELECTIONS

Bookmark and Share

(L-R) Charie Villa, Maria Ressa, and Glenda Gloria

ABS-CBN steps up its election advocacy campaign with a series of workshops on citizen journalism that will arm Filipinos with the knowledge and skills to report on events and incidents concerning the 2010 elections.

Hosted by ABS-CBN reporter Atom Araullo, the workshop is part of the network’s global election advocacy “Boto Mo, iPatrol Mo: Ako ang Simula," which was launched last May 11 to encourage Filipinos here and abroad to take a more active role in monitoring the scheduled elections.

More than 13,000 Filipinos have already signed up to become “Boto Patrollers.” Through “Boto Mo, iPatrol Mo: Akong ang Simula,” ABS-CBN is asking Filipinos to register as voters and report as early as now election-related incidents using their mobile phones and the Internet.

ABS-CBN senior vice president for News and Current Affairs Maria Ressa will lead the speakers at the first leg of “Boto Mo, iPatrol Mo: Patrollers Workshop on Citizen Journalism” on Thursday, July 9, at the KCC Mall Convention Center, General Santos City and on Friday, July 10, at the Holy Cross of Davao College Instructional Media Center in Davao City.

Registered “patrollers” from both cities will be attending the workshops. Interested individuals may register through text by keying in REG BMPM name/age/gender/address then sending to 2366 for Globe and Sun subscribers and 231 for Smart and Talk N’ Text subscribers, or online by logging in at www.abs-cbnnews.com.

They may also register manually in ABS-CBN stations in the Philippines and in the network’s global bureaus in San Francisco, Dubai, London, and Sydney.

Joining Ressa in the workshop are ABS-CBN newsgathering head Charie Villa and ANC (ABS-CBN News Channel) chief operating office Glenda M. Gloria. The three news executives have been journalists for more than two decades now, working for local and international news media companies before joining ABS-CBN. For nearly 20 years, Ressa was the bureau chief of CNN.

They will orient the “patrollers” on the fundamentals of citizen journalism—from shooting pictures or videos using cell phones or cameras, to writing captions and telling a story, to uploading their reports to the Internet. They will also be briefed on the electoral process and the ethics of journalism.

Bookmark and Share

Last July 1, at the Ground Floor SM Mall of Asia, Super Bowl of China launches their 4 latest dishes for limited time only. The four new dishes include Crispy Fish Fillet with Lemon and Plum Sauce, Golden Weave Cut US Frozen Potatoes with Minced Pork, Hot and Spicy Chicken, and Beef Fillet Chinese Style.

Para sa mahihilig sa fish kagaya ko siguradong m-eenjoy natin ang Crispy Fish Fillet with Lemon and Plum Sauce ng Super Bowl of China, na kung saan the fish is evenly sliced and fried na crispy outside at tender sa loob na talagang maeenjoy natin na may lemon after taste na medyo spicy and perfect talagang samahan ng Yang Chow Rice. Friendly advice lang sa mga kagaya kong medyo mahilig sa extreme taste sa pagkain, try asking for extra lemon sauce perfect yun sa Crispy Fish Fillet with Lemon and Plum Sauce siguradong ma-e-enjoy mo ang dish na ito.

Para naman sa mga protein and carbo loader na diners, Golden Weave Cut US Frozen Potatoes with Minced Pork is perfect dish para sa iyo, para ka nang kumain ng fried pork na rich in protein and may fried potatoes na kasama that is rich with carbo, if only Super Bowl offers this meal on an on the go container, it’s a good alternative for burgers and hotdogs that people can eat while walking, seriously I’m isa ako sa mga taong ganun.

Pero kung ikaw naman yung type na your really want to enjoy food and want to relax after sa maghapong paglalakad sa mall because of shopping with your family and friends, Beef Fillet Chinese Style ay perfect sa mga taong who wants their lunch or dinner heavy talaga. Pero hindi na bago ang dish na ito sa Super Bowl of China, it was served before on a limited time only pero what good with this is nagbabalik siya uli sa menu ng Super Bowl, so you can enjoy it again with your family with either plain rice or Yang Chow Rice.

Lastly, para naman sa mga nag-pla-plan ng mini birthday party with friends or simply miryenda lang, why don’t you include Hot and Spicy Chicken to your Crispy Noodles with Assorted Seafood. We all love spicy chicken wings na lagi nating ino-order sa mga fastfood, why have wings if you have the whole chicken, chopped and fried and like what we all wanted… Spicy!

Limited time only lang ang four new dishes na ito kaya visit na sa Super Bowl of China located on 2nd Level Glorietta 4, 3rd Level Chefs Avenue Festival Mall, 3rd Level Gateway Mall, Ground Floor SM Mall of Asia, M1 Activity Center Trinoma Mall, Ground Floor Midtown Wing of Robinsons Place Manila, and 4th Level New Atrium SM Megamall.
